Do I need an appointment to test drive a vehicle?
No — walk-ins are welcome any time we are open. But booking ahead is genuinely better, and not for our convenience: it lets us confirm the exact luxury model, trim, and color you want to see is ready and charged for your arrival.
That is especially helpful for new all-electric Volvo models or high-demand plug-in hybrids. Call us or use our online contact form to schedule your test drive.

Pricing, Fees & Tennessee Taxes
How much is sales tax on a vehicle in Tennessee?
Vehicle sales tax in Tennessee is calculated in three separate layers rather than applying the flat 9.25% retail rate:
- 7% state sales tax on the total purchase price (Tenn. Code Ann. § 67-6-202)
- 2.75% state single article tax on the portion of the price between $1,600.01 and $3,200 — capped at $44
- Local option tax applied only to the first $1,600 of the price (capped at ~$36 in Sullivan County)
For example, on a $55,000 luxury vehicle: $3,850 state + $44 single article + ~$36 local = ~to $3,930 (~7.15% effective rate).
Does Tennessee cap the dealer documentation fee?
No. Tennessee law does not set a maximum documentation fee. Market averages across regional dealerships typically fall between $600 and $700. Note that document processing fees are subject to Tennessee state sales tax.
Can you give me an out-the-door price?
Yes, in writing and transparently. An out-the-door quote includes the negotiated price, doc fee (taxable), Tennessee sales tax layers, county title/registration fees (~$14), standard Sullivan County license plate fees (~$29/year), the $5 state tire fee, and any optional protection products you select.
Electric and hybrid Volvo buyers should note Tennessee's annual EV/hybrid registration surcharges due upon tag renewal.
Does Tennessee require an emissions test or safety inspection?
No. Sullivan County does not require emissions testing or annual safety inspections. Tennessee ended emissions testing statewide in January 2022. (Virginia residents registering across the line in Washington County should note Virginia's annual safety inspection requirement).
